Photobook Planning

My Mother passed away on September 12th, it was sudden and unexpected. Similar to the passing of photographer Jennifer Loeber’s mother, my own Mom passed away suddenly and unexpectedly. She found herself drawn to her Mom’s mundane possessions, I have also experienced a similar feeling as I sort through mugs, jewelry, and trinkets deciding what to keep and at what point should I get rid of the other things. After the death of Laurie, Andrew A. Amundsen’s girlfriend, he began photographing mundane parts of his everyday surroundings. As I grieve for my own mom I am finding that life is continuing, to go on around me despite how much I wish the world had all hit pause. I find moments of joy occasionally and once in a while even forget that I have received what feels like the worst news of my life. For my own photo book, I am planning to emulate the style and work of the above-mentioned photographers as I interpret and begin to comprehend life without my mom. https://www.amundsenphotog...

Colour Film Negatives contact sheet

A collection of coloured film negatives, some of which made it into my photobook. Shot on a 35 mm Minolta film camera from June -October 2023. Including photos from a road trip to the Crowsnest Pass, a friend's birthday party, and a few afternoons in Lethbridge. I have been focusing on photographing moments in daily life that capture memories and emotion that is part of those memories, be it peace, serenity, joy, excitement or confusion, mundanity, or sadness. My focus, on the high-level train bridge alongside the changing fall leaves, explores the connection between this life, what follows after death, and the change that death forces in the loved ones of someone who dies.
